Supercar Challenge Round 5. Another Win for Barton Racing
Hockenheim Germany. 11/13 September 2026.
The weekend format was straightforward: Two forty-minute practice sessions on the Friday, followed next day by a brief, twenty minutes of qualifying, and a one-hour race running into early evening. Sunday allowed no warmup, so after lunch it was straight into race two, another sixty minute epic. Both included mandatory pit stops, while the threat of heavy rain on Sunday, that in fact didn’t materialise, made for some interesting late night pre-race conversation.
Friday practice threw up its fair share of problems for Barton Racing and the BMW M6, Harry having to suffer a gearbox change, and a car that just wouldn’t handle. Qualifying next morning was therefore, a bit hit and miss. It all came to nothing anyway when, after a good start from third in race one, the car blew its power steering pump. As can be imagined the team entered a long, quiet moment of thoughtful contemplation, while Koopman Racing readied themselves for yet another late night. So far then, it was zero points.
Sunday dawned another day: And with yesterday’s problems resigned to history Harry went out and blitzed the opposition. Not only winning, but doing it in style, crossing the finish-line with a cool fourteen seconds in hand, scoring maximum points along the way. Sadly, with just two rounds of the 2026 Supercar Challenge remaining victory overall looks unlikely and Barton Racing, after all that hard work, may have to settle for second place. However, motor racing is a funny old game, and anything can still happen. It’s not over, as our boss says, until the over large lady behind the microphone stops singing. Roll on Zandvoort 2-4 October.
