2026 Supercar Championship Ends In Turmoil. Harry Scores Another Outright Win.

After seven rounds and nineteen races Harry Barton completed his first season of GT3 racing in fine style at a wet and windy Assen, taking one podium third in category, and just to make sure of his 2026 Championship second place, a maximum points, overall victory in Race 2. The stage was set then for a final showdown, Sunday’s sixty-minute race of endurance, with Harry starting on pole. Sadly, any chance of him increasing his points tally came to nothing when on lap five, the 2026 Champion, nineteen-year-old Marlon Birdsall, left the track in spectacular style, taking the catch fencing with him, probably due to brake failure.  Although the car was badly damaged, driver compartment build strength, allied to quick action by both marshals and medical staff, allowed Marlon to walk away with only minor injuries from which he will soon recover.

So, a subdued ending to what had been a fantastic series. This aside, the quality of racing throughout the Championship had been superbly competitive, and close, but at the same time, fair and friendly throughout. In fact, the perfect introduction into GT3 for Harry, and Barton Racing as a whole. Question now is: what’s coming next? Answer: Still early days.

Finally, a big, big thank you goes out to Hein, and all the guys at Koopman Racing. They promised us their full attention, and that’s what we received. Every minute of every race. We blended, and shared every up and down together, as a team, luckily there were always more ups than downs. Long may that continue.
