Motor Racing Legends Silverstone GP Meeting 2023
Outright Victory Goes The Way Of Barton Racing. After two years of ‘knocking on the door’ Harry Barton and Ollie Reuben (TVR Griffith) on behalf of Barton Racing, fought off stiff opposition to win outright the prestigious three hour Pall Mall Cup, organised by Motor Racing Legends, and sponsored by the Royal Automobile Club. But it was not an easy victory. After a damp and misty qualifying the team landed themselves a very average 6th on the grid, possibility due to poor compression on two cylinders. There was no option but to change the engine. Something Reubens Racing achieved in a record two hours thirty-five minutes, presenting the TVR into the assembly area with twenty minutes to spare. Conditions hardly improved for the race and as the twenty-nine cars fought for an early advantage Harry kept the TVR away from trouble and moved up to fifth overall just before the hand-over. Ollie Reuben also excelled in the difficult conditions, pushing the car to its limit. With one hour left to run Ollie had moved into second place, only thirty-one seconds behind the leading Shelby Daytona. It was all to play for. Then the Daytona went into the gravel leaving Harry with a half minute lead, with twenty minutes remaining. Tension ran high on the pit wall as the Huff/Meins Jaguar gnawed away at his lead, but Harry is a cool driver at the best of times, and at the flag won the race with 9.1 seconds still in hand. As icing on the cake the Davison/Reubens sister TVR grabbed a last minute second place, making it a superb, and well deserved 1-2 for all concerned. It was time to celebrate. As a prelude to Portugal ( Algarve Historic Festival 27-29 October) the BMW 2002 was entered at Silverstone, this time in the MRL Touring Cars Challenge Race, allowing Harry to add another class with to his allready impressive list.
