Masters Race Weekend. Donington Park. 3-4 August 2024.
For Barton Racing, and Harry in particular, this busy weekend actually started on the previous Thursday with a full day of testing involving the TVR, BMW 1800 TiSA, and Toyota Supra GT4 EVO. All three cars performed well, and we went into the two days of competition with high hopes. True, the Toyota was a GT Trophy Cup invited entry, not eligible for awards, but with three class wins on the trot in the Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars 2024 Championship, our hopes for further success with the BMW were running high. The team was not to be disappointed. Qualifying went as planned, and although a permanent loss of top gear early into the race provided Harry with an extra challenge, he still crossed the line 10th overall and class leader.
Sunday again dawned dry with a gentle breeze and sporadic sunshine, ideal conditions in fact for some close racing. Main event being the hotly contested ninety-minute Masters Gentleman Drivers race for Pre-66 GT cars, in which the four top TVRs in Europe easily out qualified the opposition. And after its comprehensive refresh our TVR Griffith not only sounded wonderful but was obviously going to be very competitive, with Harry claiming third spot on the grid. During the first half there was nothing between the leaders, but unfortunately Harry was released early from his mandatory pit-stop and had to serve a time-consuming penalty, relegating him from a sure-fire podium position to a hard earned fourth overall. Meanwhile, the Toyota completed a pair of forty-minute races without complaint, boding well for its future 2025 European GT4 campaign. Overall, it was another great weekend for Barton Racing, and everyone involved is now looking forward to Silverstone on the 22nd-25th of August, a meeting with full grids that guarantees challenges aplenty.
